WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) – Not everyone might know it, but Russian President Medvedev certainly didn’t forget President Obama’s birthday on Tuesday. He called him personally.

In a statement, the White House said Russian President Medvedev called President Obama to wish him happy birthday. Besides that, the presidents discussed the situation in Georgia and the need to decrease tensions in the region.

“President Obama reiterated the importance of working through established crisis management mechanism such as the Joint Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism and underscored the need for international monitors,” the statement read.

Obama and Medvedev also discussed the need to move forward quickly on agreements reached at the July summit, which took place in Moscow. In particular, the statement concluded, the presidents reaffirmed their commitment to complete negotiations on a follow-on agreement to START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) by December of this year.
