Gandhinagar, Jan 5 (IANS) A leader of the opposition Congress party Tuesday alleged large-scale irregularities and siphoning of funds in the state public sector undertaking, Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC). The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has rubbished the allegations.
Shaktisinh Gohil alleged that GSPC had till March 2009 taken a loan of Rs.4,933.50 crore from the state government, but had not repaid it so far.
“As against this, the state has got a mere Rs.297 crore from the sale of oil and gas as returns - a mere five percent for its massive investment,” Gohil alleged.
Jay Narayan Vyas, spokesperson for the state government, termed the charges as baseless and politically motivated.
Vyas said that if the leader of the opposition has proof for his allegations, he should approach the appropriate forum - the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) - which audits government expenditure.
“Government business is transacted according to rules and not at the whims and fancies of individuals,” he added.
