Gandhinagar, Oct 26 (IANS) Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Purshottam Rupala was admitted to a hospital in Ahmedabad Monday after he suffered a mild heart attack, a party official said.
Rupala, 55, was rushed to the SAL Hospital in Ahmedabad from the state capital here after he complained of chest pain around 4.30 a.m.
Attending doctors found a blockage and an angioplasty procedure was performed on Rupala. He is recuperating and has been advised complete bed rest. He will be kept in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital for the next two days, the official said.
Rupala is a Rajya Sabha member and considered close to Chief Minister Narendra Modi. BJP leader L.K. Advani called up from New Delhi to enquire about his health as did Chief Minister Modi, who is currently on a tour of Russia.
Rupala’s term as Gujarat BJP president ends in December.
