cmurayWashington, Aug 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Republican Congressman Ron Paul has come out with a statement in which he expressed his support to the proposal of building an Islamic cultural center near the Ground Zero which is the name given to the site where the September 9/11 attacks were carried out. In the statement that was released by Ron Paul on Friday, the congressman slammed those who have opposed the establishment of a mosque, just few blocks away from the Ground Zero.

Interestingly, the opponents of the Islamic cultural center against whom the former Republican presidential candidate has lashed out also includes his own son Kentucky Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul who has recently divulged his viewpoint that he no way supports the building of a mosque in close proximity to the site of the September 9/11 attacks. The statement issued by Ron Paul reads that according to him, politicians are doing nothing but ‘fiddling while the economy burns’ while also hinting that the neo-conservative movement has also played a pivotal role in adding fuel to the whole controversy. The 75-year-old Republican leader further goes on to add that the entire hoopla is about hate and Islamaphobia while pointing out that political demagoguery takes control when truth and liberty are ignored.

However, the views of his son Rand Paul in this matter completely contradicts his father’s thoughts as the Kentucky Republican Senate candidate has refused to back the proposal of constructing a mosque just two blocks from Ground Zero. The younger politician has emphasized that the Muslim community could instead contribute to the healing process by making donations to the memorial funds of the September 9/11 victims.
