Mumbai, March 29 (IANS) Bollywood actor-MP Govinda will not stand for re-election from Mumbai North constituency, Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said here Sunday.
“He has expressed his inability to contest the election. He was made an offer by the party, as with all other sitting members of parliament,” Chavan told reporters at the state Congress headquarters.
Chavan added that Bollywood actress Naghma has shown interest and is ready to contest from the seat.
Naghma Sunday said that she was ready to contest from either Mumbai North or Mumbai North-West constituency.
In 2004, Govinda had emerged as a surprise winner, defeating former union petroleum minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ram Naik from Mumbai North.
