New Delhi, Dec 1 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked the government to take the incident of radiation contamination at Kaiga nuclear plant more seriously.
“The government needs to take the matter more seriously,” BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said.
Referring to government statements that the contamination could be mischief by a disgruntled scientist, Swaraj said it was all the more dangerous.
“It is also the government’s job to see that there are no disgruntled scientists,” she said.
Around 55 employees of Kaiga had to be hospitalised after drinking water contaminated with radioactive Tritium (heavy water) Nov 24.

Take the incident more seriously and antagonize the powerful mafia that thrives in the guise of strategic secrecy? The so called ‘mischief by a disgruntled insider’ has obviously been done by the faulty sealing mechanism of the hundreds of coolant channels! According to the minister in-charge at Parliament, there WAS NO SECURITY BREACH behind the admitted radioactive contamination of the SEALED water cooler. Then, how was it that the stuff got “deliberately” added and ingested? Massive spills of radioactive poison from coolant channels have occurred in other stations of India the past. The REAL need for a ruthless probe is at the HQ - Vikram Sarabhai Bhavan. Only that can expose the horrible quality compromises and inherent flaws in components used to fabricate India’s reactors. Will the BJP government dare demand that the can of worms be opened? Forcing the Karnataka police and plant staff to spread cock-and-bull stories is capable of creating a mini-Hiroshima in the State.
