New Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS) Expecting a stormy start to the winter session of parliament beginning Thursday with issues like price rise and telecom scam high on opposition’s agenda, the government Wednesday said it was ready to discuss all matters and sought cooperation from political parties for smooth proceedings.
“We are ready for discussion on issues of price rise and problems of farmers. Suggestions from the opposition are welcome. We request them to cooperate for smooth conduct of proceedings,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told reporters.

He said the government intends to introduce as many as 62 new bills during the session, including the bill providing for raising reservation of seats/representation for women in panchayats from 33 percent at present to 50 per cent.

Bansal said the government would like this legislation to be passed by both houses unanimously.

On the bill for women’s reservation in legislative bodies, Bansal said it was with the standing committee.

Among the new bills slated for introduction is the Land Accquisition (Amendment) Bill, to which the Trinamool Congress had raised objections before its introduction in the previous session. Bansal said that no changes have been made in the bill.

Asked about the possibility of an action taken report on the Liberhan Commission probe into the 1992 demolition of the Babri Masjid being tabled in parliament, Bansal said he was not certain about it.

The document is “very voluminous” and he would find out its exact status from the home ministry, he said.

The financial business includes supplementary demands for grants for 2009-10 in respect of the railways, general budgets and the state budget of Jharkhand.
