Government avoiding discussion on China, says BJP

New Delhi, Nov 30 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday accused the central government of avoiding a discussion on contentious issues relating to China.
Party leader S.S. Ahluwalia said the BJP wanted to raise the issue of China’s plans to construct a dam across the Brahmaputra river in Tibet, its investment in power projects in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, and its objections to work on a link road in Demchok area of Ladakh.
“The government is not prepared to talk about China. We can only exert pressure for a discussion,” he said.
Sources said some of these issues were raised in the first business advisory committee meeting of the Rajya Sabha in the current session of parliament but the government had so far not agreed to a time for discussion.
According to reports Monday, work on a road link from Demchok, on the Indian side of Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh region, to Leh was stopped after objections by the Chinese army. Demchok is about 300 km southeast of Leh.
