Sep 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Pledge to America campaign was the subject of a high level defense by Republican politicians after their opponents claimed that it was nothing new and just a different presentation of past policies.

They stated that extending tax cuts and cutting down government expenditure was the only sure way of putting the American economy back on track and help ease unemployment by creating jobs. Republican lawmaker from Indiana, Mike Pence stated that the major aim was to create jobs and that aim will be hampered if companies are being asked to pay more taxes.

Kentucky Republican lawmaker, Mitch McConnell also stated in an interview with Christiane Amanpour on NBC, that economic growth is the only way to decrease government expenditure and stressed that tax increases will prolong the recession.

“Job one needs to be to create jobs. For heaven’s sakes, let’s not raise taxes on job creators,” according to Rep. Mike Pence (R., Ind.) who mentioned this on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Republicans say the Pledge for America is aimed at getting the country to be financially more responsible which they admitted hasn’t been the case in previous years. Republican John Boehner of Ohio also stated that the government was too big, less accountable and spending too much and these are what they are trying to avoid.
