Good Samaritans to be reimbursed in Kerala
July 24th, 2010 - 8:56 pm ICT by IANSThiruvananthapuram, July 24 (IANS) People who help accident victims will be reimbursed the cost incurred for taking the injured to hospital, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said Saturday.
“Those people who come to help accident victims will be reimbursed expenses by the government which they incur,” said Balakrishnan.
The decision was taken after a meeting Balakrishnan had with top police officials of the state.
The move is intended to encourage people to help accident victims, as most shy away thinking of the consequences of a lengthy legal battle.
The home minister said 20 facilitation centres will be set up for the benefit of the foreign tourists and police stations will have a special cell for senior citizens.
“Police stations would be equipped with a special cell exclusively for senior citizens. A new battalion solely for women would be raised and special women’s cells would be set up at 150 places,” Balakrishnan said.
