Goa on terror radar, says outgoing governor
September 6th, 2011 - 8:03 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Sep 6 (IANS) Goa is “one of the most vulnerable places on the radar of terrorism”, the state’s Governor S.S. Sidhu said in his farewell address.
The address, which was circulated to the media Tuesday, however, is silent on the issue of illegal mining and drug trafficking in the state, both of which the outgoing governor earlier described as “disturbing”.
“Goa has…remained as one of the most vulnerable place(s) on the radar of terrorism. In this connection, my frequent interactions with the high-level group consisting of (the) chief minister, home minister, chief secretary and director general of police, initially every fortnight or so and later at least once a month, stood us in good stead,” Sidhu said.
The address also commends the “forward looking” people of Goa and the state for its “peaceful, harmonious and cosmopolitan outlook”.
In his Independence Day address this year, Sidhu said social evils like drug addiction and drug trafficking, corruption and environmental degradation contributed to giving the state a bad name.
The governor laid down office Tuesday following completion of his term.
