Goa government finally releases funds to tackle swine flu
August 1st, 2009 - 3:30 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Aug 1 (IANS) In a damage control move, after the state nodal officer for swine flu Friday publicly accused the state government of depriving him of funds to tackle influenza A (H1N1), Chief Minister Digambar Kamat Saturday said that “adequate funds were being released for the swine flu programme”.
“There is no problem. The money for the programme is being released,” Kamat told reporters on the sidelines of a function.
The chief minister’s statement follows a public charge by Rajendra Tamba, Goa’s nodal officer for swine flu, who in a press release issued by the department of information on Friday had said that he had “no funds to carry out any activity related to swine flu”.
Tamba had blamed the state directorate of health services for not allocating funds to tackle swine flu in Goa, which has already seen six confirmed cases.
Speaking to IANS, Goa chief secretary Sanjiv Srivastava blamed “lack of coordination” between the health department officials for the impasse.
“This is not about funds at all. There are coordination issues which we are in the process of sorting out,” Srivastava said.
