caroline August 5, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The daughter of the erstwhile mayor Rudy Giuliani has been arrested on charges of shop lifting reported the law enforcement sources on Wednesday.

Caroline Giuliani aged 20 was found with five unaccounted for cosmetic items in her purse. She had been shopping at an Upper East Side beauty shop. The value of the items were around $100 but the police reported that Caroline had around $300 in her purse as well.

The so called theft was recorded on camera said the sources. She had been apprehended and taken to the 19th precinct where she was held in a cell. Her mother, Donna Hanover had accompanied her to the station.

The sources further report that the store management may not press charges ultimately which means that the decision will be entirely left on the District attorney of Manhattan. Caroline Giuliani will currently be served with a desk appearance ticket. Her return date will be 31st August say the officials.

The case will be reviewed properly by the District Attorney, Cyrus Vance Jr before the decision to file for a criminal complaint can be taken. A spokesperson for the DA informed the press about this.

The store where the theft occurred declined to comment on the incident while it later issued a statement saying that it had a policy of not commenting on issues under police investigation.

Caroline is a student of the Harvard University, studying performing arts there. However, she was seen in a NYU T-shirt at the time of her arrest.

She was also in the news when Giuliani failed to make the presidential run. She had been an Obama supporter group member then.
