george lemieuxThe post of U.S.Senator of Florida has been taken up by George LeMieux who was governor Charlie Crist’s good friend. The post was vacant after the sad demise of the late US Senator Edward Kennedy.

The ceremony took place in the Senate Chamber of the Old Capitol at 11:36 am. Crist inquired if the American public was surprised at the announcement. Charlie revealed that he had made the decision on Thursday night following which he had informed LeMieux at 10 pm. The two share common perspectives on matters of corporate agenda and utility companies, even having the same populist beliefs.

Showing his gratitude and respect for his election George said, “There are tremendous issues facing this nation, and although my time in Washington will be brief,I intend to work everyday to address these challenges, and serve the people of this unique, diverse and wonderful state.” He also indicated that he felt pride in taking the responsibility as he would sincerely relish his work and showed concern for the future of Florida.

He made it explicit that he would not be ambitiously eyeing the post for more than 16 months; the remainder term Mel Martinez has left in his office. Martinez congratulated the Senator acknowledging him as a “bright, capable and an accomplished administrator”. Marco Rubio commented that that he was rather dismayed at the pick since there were genuine conservative contestants who would be better at executing the “check and balance on the excesses of Obama-Pelosi-Reid agenda”. Rubio indicated that only because the Governor had friendly relations with LeMieux was not reason enough to appoint him Senator.

The media miffed that the new senator cautiously avoided certain political issues like gay-marriages and others.
