General Stanley McChrystal’s “Rolling Stone” Story Creates Waves

rolling-stonesJune 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) General Stanley McChrystal, the top commander in Afghanistan was called back to Washington by President Barack Obama for his disparaging remarks about US administration officials in “Rolling Stone” magazines published interview which has angered the White House.

Stanley McChrystal was harshly scolded by his superiors in the United States whereas, Afghanistan officials spoke in his favor saying that he has increased cooperation between Afghanistan and international troops, reduced civilian casualties and hence gained the trust of Afghan people.

The “Rolling Stone” magazine reported critical remarks about US officials, about President Barack Obama and other senior members of the administration. He addressed National Security Adviser Gen James Jones as “a clown” and also he stated that the President is “intimidated” by military leaders.

General Stanley McChrystal in a way mocked respected officials when he said that the American Ambassador is most concerned about his image in history books and President Barack Obama’s envoy Richard Holbrooke was derided and criticized by him as well. The Rolling Stone issue “Runaway General” has caused all these tensions for the General as well as the officials.

This interview has created so much of wave in the US ministry that it has brought about General Stanley McChrystal’s resignation due to his explosive comments. It is expected that these tensions will surely increase President Barack Obama’s deadline for starting a withdrawal of US forces and then the Afghans may eventually doubt the future US commitment to their country.

Now it all depends on what happens in the White House today as the General might offer his resignation or deny the whole incident.
