Ganpat Vasava new Gujarat assembly speaker

Gandhinagar, Feb 24 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Ganpat Vasava was unanimously elected the speaker of the Gujarat assembly here Thursday.Chief Minister Narendra Modi said the election of Vasava, a tribal from the reserved constituency of Mangrol, was an unprecedented event.
He added that Vasava’s election set a high precedent in parliamentary democracy, particularly on the state’s golden jubilee year.
Modi said that not many people knew about Vasava’s contributions as a social worker who motivated the tribal community to go to schools, take part in sports and stay away from addictions.
As a legislator too, Modi said, Vasava’s conduct for the two successive terms has been exemplary.
The chief minister also paid his respects to the late speaker Ashok Bhatt.
