New Delhi, July 5 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari, Janata Dal-United (JD-U) chief Sharad Yadav and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur were amongst the leaders detained here during the opposition’s dawn-to-dusk strike against price rise.
BJP leader Rajnath Singh, Madanlal Khurana, Chandan Mitra and Vijay Goel were also detained at Chandini Chowk area, police said.
The leaders held a protest rally against price rise and the hike in prices of petroleum products.
Gadkari said the shutdown was successful and congratulated party workers for it.
He said the shutdown had been organised to highlight the problems of the people.
Sharad Yadav said people were upset with the government as it had not fulfilled its promise to bring down prices.
JD-U general secretary Javed Raza led party workers in blocking traffic near Parliament Street police station and courted arrest later.
