Raipur, Jan 16 (IANS) There was no problem of funds for development and infrastructure projects for Maoist-hit areas, Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh said Monday.

“The central government is striving to address Maoist problems… I can assure you there will be no fund problem for development and infrastructure projects for the Naxal (Maoist) areas,” the minister told a gathering of tribals in state’s extreme Maoist-hit areas of Sukma, a district carved out this month from the country’s one of the worst insurgency-hit Dantewada district.

The central minister visited Sukma, some 480 km south of Raipur, along with Chief Minister Raman Singh.

Both leaders who belong to different parties vowed to give a push to development activities in Chhattisgarh’s roughly 40,000 sq km Bastar region, which is a nerve centre of Maoist militancy since late 1980s.
