Washington, Aug 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Franklin Graham the son of Billy Graham well known presidential religious adviser has made a comment on the religious origin of US President Barack Obama and that has sparked fresh controversy. The Evangelical leader said on Thursday that though the president of USA is now a Christian he was born a Muslim. John King the CNN Chief National Correspondent asked him about any question on the religious faith of the US president. The evangelical leader is well known for making edgy religious comments earlier as well. He also said that the past of the president is fuelling the speculations regarding his Christianity.
A few days back it was reported that a fifth of the US population thinks the President is Muslim though the belief is not correct. It was found in a recent poll. The White House has lashed out at the people who have questioned the Christian faith of the president and in a recent statement it said that he is a devout Christian and prays regularly. Bill Burton the White House spokesman said on Friday that the famed Evangelical leader is entitled to his personal opinion on the issue but there is no denying the fact that the President believes in Christianity. He also told the media that the mass is aware of the religious faith of the president irrespective of what some others might be saying.
Bill Burton also said in his statement that only because the president does not go to church on Sundays it would be wrong to conclude that he does not pray. He does avoid going to mass congregation for people’s inconvenience and security reasons according to him.
