April 7th, 2011 - 10:22 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, April 7 (IANS) A four-layer security cover comprising central para-military forces and the state police will be deployed around the 24,000 sensitive polling booths during the upcoming West Bengal polls, Election Commission officials said Thursday.
The six-phase staggered elections in the state begin April 18 and continue till May 10.
“A four-layer security cover will be provided in and around the 24,000 sensitive polling booths. The inner layer comprising both para-military troopers and the state police will be used to guard the polling premises, while the outer layer will be the mobile forces entrusted to keep vigil in the whole area,” said additional chief electoral officer N.K. “About 50 Quick Response Teams (QRT) comprising para-military forces, will be deployed to look after the security of the entire area. Along with the QRTs, high radio flying squads (HRFS) of the state police will also be provided to keep vigil and prevent any untoward incident,” he added.
