Former Shiv Sena MP Narayan Athavale passes away
April 28th, 2011 - 6:23 pm ICT by IANSMumbai, April 28 (IANS) Former Shiv Sena MP Narayan Athavale died here Thursday after a brief illness, family sources said. He was 78.
Athavale, a senior journalist and editor of Marathi daily ‘Gomantak’ was also an author. His book on social reformer Mahatama Jyotiba Phule was widely appreciated.
Athavale also actively participated in the Goa Liberation Movement in the late 1950s and contributed to several social causes.
“We have lost not only an aggressive journalist and writer but a personality who has contributed a lot on social and political fields,” said Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan in his condolence message.
Public Works Minister Chhagan Bhujbal also expressed grief saying the journalism fraternity has lost a senior journalist and freedom fighter. “On the personal front, I have lost a very close friend. His contribution to various fields will not be forgotten,” Bhujbal said.
