rod1 Chicago, Aug 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former Illinois Governor – Rod Blagojevich has been convicted on just 1 count of speaking the untruth to the federal agents. The jury wasn’t able to convict him on any of the leftover 23 counts. The prosecutors were devastated at the result and they revealed that they plan to retry the case.

The former governor was convicted on just 1 count, and that too happened after almost a fortnight of deliberations. The jury didn’t arrive at any clear verdict on the remaining 23 counts, which certainly was a major blow to the prosecutors. The Judge in the case – Judge James B. Zagel has ruled that there was a mistrial on the remaining 23 counts. He has also decided that on the 26th of August, he would hold a hearing to decide the further course of action.

Meanwhile Rod seems to be a bit relieved, as he has been found guilty on just one count. He said that he plans to file an appeal on the lying count. He also divulged that he and his family members were victims of prosecution by the federal government.

On the single count conviction, he can be send away to prison for a maximum of 5 years and dole out a fine of $250,000.
