April 29, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Except for a last-minute volte-face, Florida Governor Charlie Crist will turn Florida’s American Senate race on its head today by officially enunciating that he will run as an independent candidate. He is likely to leave the Republican Party that made him one of the most identifiable politicians in the state.

Purportedly, Crist desires to initiate his independent proposal in his hometown of St. Petersburg. This data is consistent with two sources attached to the Governor. Crist intends to depict himself as a nominee more involved in serving the ordinary people than the party managers.

He will commence campaigning almost immediately. He has already planned a weekend charity performance in South Florida.

His detachment from the Republican Party, gossiped for a long time, will lift up Florida’s Senate race into the hottest political ticket in America. Crist will have to be geared up for a battle against Marco Rubio, the captivating darling of movement conservatives and Tea Party campaigners, and possible Democratic candidate, American Rep. Kendrick Meek. Political analysts have declared that this tussle is going to seize the national mind because of its inherent competitiveness.

Crist has been exploring the proposal of running as an independent for weeks. However, he has been shy about his tactics when quizzed by the media. However, sources close to Crist have been mentioning his intentions to the financial supporters.

Crist is behind Rubio horribly in primary polls. Many political forecasters believe that his only chance of triumphing in the future is running outside of the GOP. Crist has energized that conjecture by acting like a candidate determined to burn political bridges.

Crist has rejected legislations essential to the GOP policymakers. Most noteworthy was the legislation about a teacher-merit-pay bill. Crist has vocalized that he might organize a special meeting of the Legislature to concentrate on ethics. This comes in the midst of a credit card disgrace involving the Republican Party of Florida. This disgrace has aroused the interest of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service.
