Five states to see elections in January-March (Lead)
December 24th, 2011 - 6:32 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 24 (IANS) Elections will be held in Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand between Jan 28 and March 3 to elect new assemblies, the Election Commission announced Saturday.
Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Qureshi said the vote count will take place March 4 in all five states.
The elections will kick off from Manipur Jan 28, followed by Punjab and Uttarakhand on Jan 30.
Uttar Pradesh will see a seven-phase polling: Feb 4, 8, 11, 15, 19, 23 and 28. Goa will go to the polls March 3.
