Five held for running illegal arms unit in Bengal
March 30th, 2011 - 12:29 am ICT by IANSKolkata, March 29 (IANS) Ahead of the April-May assembly elections, five people, including a woman, were arrested for illegally running an arms manufacturing unit in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, police said Tuesday.
“Five persons, including one woman, were arrested for running a sophisticated firearms manufacturing unit in Baranagar area of the district. At least 200 accessories of improvised firearms and 20 pipe guns were recovered,” said North 24 Parganas Superintendent of Police Rahul Srivastav.
“They rented the ground floor of a private house to run their manufacturing unit. The unit was covered up so tactfully that even the house owner was in the dark about their activities,” said Srivastav.
