Jan 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Its almost been a year since United States president Barack Obama took charge of his office and Michelle Obama assumed duties as the first lady. During the time prior to the inauguration, the first lady had reiterated that she would adorn the role of “mom in chief”. The remark resulted in people presuming that the first lady would concentrate her attention on daughters Sasha and Malia, to ensure that they settle down in their new house. However, the past year has revealed that Michelle Obama’s remarks had far broader significance then what was initially presumed.

It can be said that Michelle Obama has been successful in fulfilling her duties as she did her best to help her family settle in White House and getting them accustomed to the new life. At the same time, the first lady made sure that she was able to avoid any controversy that might have any kind of repercussions on her husband’s political career.

Michelle Obama’s first year as the first lady also witnessed the Harvard-educated lawyer propel the idea of healthy eating habits by herself taking initiatives to growing vegetables in the White House Kitchen Garden. The first lady also made news by initiating a mentoring program in the White House and asking other Americans to do the same.

Moreover, the former executive also created quite a stir with her fashion choices with her wardrobe grabbing the attention of media throughout the year.

While taking to reporters last week, Michelle Obama said after spending a year in the White House, she can now understand what actually works for her as the first lady.
