Shanksville, Sep 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The crowd which gathered at the United Airlines Flight 93 temporary memorial site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on Saturday remembered not only the lives lost in the 9/11 terrorist attack but also celebrated the true spirit of America that has emerged with a stronger zeal to fight terrorism after the attack. The gathering at the hillside overlooking the jetliner crash site was addressed by first lady Michelle Obama and former first lady Laura Bush. The duo told the Shanksville gathering that the tragedy of 9/11 has only helped to revive the American spirit.
First Lady Michelle Obama addressed the gathering by saying that she had come to the place not just as the first lady of the nation but also as an American citizen who is filled with a “sense of awe at the heroism of our fellow citizens”. Laura Bush mentioned that nine years ago the country not only saw the worst of its enemies in the skies but also the best of the nation. She held that although America was attacked, the enemies failed to break the deepest belief of its people from democracy. Laura Bush said, “Good was at the heart of our country”.
Nine years before, on the fatal day of Sep 11, 2001, it was the heroism of the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 that made the hijacked jetliner crash in the Shanksville, field destroying its attempt to strike Washington D.C. It was the bravery of the passengers inside the plane that had stirred the patriotism among the citizens of United States. On Saturday as violin played at the site of crash, Michelle Obama and Laura Bush met with the families of the 40 victims privately.
