Few takers for tents at Congress plenary
December 20th, 2010 - 2:27 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) The 500 tents erected at Burari to accommodate party workers attending the 83rd Congress plenary have found few takers. The December chill has forced many to opt for hotel rooms even as some complain of lack of facilities in the tents. While only a few Seva Dal workers occupied have the tents, many Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) members have booked hotel rooms. Less than 100 tents were occupied during the three-day meet.
Seizing upon the opportunity, police personnel who were on night duty occupied some of the tents, a police officer on duty told IANS.
“This is the worst-ever plenary session I have attended. No proper food and accommodation were provided to any party cadre,” K. Anthony, a PCC member from Thrissur, Kerala, said.
Voicing the same concern, a group of Congress workers from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, said they opted for hotel rooms as they found it difficult to weather Delhi’s cold weather in tents.
But according to Beeru Ram Kishore, a former Congress legislator from Himachal Pradesh, the facilities were adequate. “We cannot expect the comfort we get at our homes. One should be happy with whatever the party offers.”
