A government order issued here announced the appointment of Natraj, who will head the panel till he attains the age of 62 years.
Nataraj is the first officer belonging to Indian Police Service (IPS) to be appointed to the post. He succeeds R.Sellamuthu, who resigned in the wake of series of raids on his office and house by the anti-corrpution and vigilance wings of the state government.
Natraj had challenged the appointment of Letika Saran as DGP (Law and Order) by the previous DMK government in the Madras High Court. The latter had recently upheld the DMK government’s decision.
