Ex-Detroit Mayor Ordered To Pay $300,000

detroit Jan 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A former Mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, is going to be penalized for lying once again to the city of which he was a Mayor. He was ordered to pay $300,000 within 90 days to avoid further punishment. On one occasion, Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner throughly criticized Kwame Kilpatrick for his conduct. He told the former mayor, “You have not been credible in this courtroom and again you have not been honest.” Kwame Kilpatrick remained silent and listened to orders. After the restitution hearing, he talked with the reporters and said that he was ready to do whatever was ordered.

Earlier in 2008, for two criminal cases, he agreed to pay $1 million. Later he pleaded to reduce the amount saying his monthly salary had reduced. The amount was lowered from $6,000 to $3,000 as according to him his new job’s salary had dropped. He was accused of hiding his property. Apparently he had shifted a huge sum of money to his wife’s account. Then he was charged to pay $225,000. David Groner ordered him to pay 30 percent of two $50,000 gifts paid to his wife and three children.

In 2008, after he was found guilty, he was sentenced to jail for 99 days. On his release, the ex-mayor served as an account executive and shifted to Texas. His monthly payments to court was $6,000. In six months he paid $36,000 after the release. When his got salary reduced from $20,000 to $10,000 per month, Kwame Kilpatrick began paying $3,000 which was 30 percent of his income. A lawyer of Kwame Kilpatrick said that giving 30 percent of the income was the order set by David Groner.
