Indiana, Feb 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Evan Bayh, the two time Senator has announced on Monday that he will not be fighting for the re-election this November. The Congressman made this announcement with his children and wife Susan by his side at a news conference in Indiana. A centrist Democrat, Evan Bayh is serving his second six year term as the Senator of Indiana. He has taken this decision as according to him the Congress is not too enthusiastic about his passion for helping people. He also said that he is disheartened with the present partisanship and thus has decided to leave the Congress. However, according to the Republicans, Evan Bayh along with other Democrats are turning their faces away from the election as they fear the defeat that they will face.
The decision of Evan Bayh comes to mean a lot for both the Democrats and the Republicans. The Republicans are looking forward to capture Evan Bayh’s seat so that they can break the majority drive of the 59 seat holding of the Democrats at the Senate.
As for Evan Bayh, his decision comes from his disillusionment from the senate and should not be thought of as any other thing. He has said that after his term is served he would love to work in the private sector, or run a school or a business where his motive would be to work for “solutions not slogans, progress not politics”. His decision comes as no surprise for many Democrats who think that with the atmosphere of the Senate, it is like going to war every day and not to work.
