Ensure security of Amarnath pilgrims, says BJP

New Delhi, June 30 (IANS) Expressing concern over the situation in Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Wednesday that the government should ensure that morale of security forces was not affected and provide full security to Amarnath pilgrims.
“The continuing violence and civilian deaths are unfortunate. However, separatists in the garb of civilians have targeted the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The nation must be made aware of the nefarious design behind the agenda to keep the state on the boil,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said here.
He said security forces in the state should be given full powers and there was need to raise their morale.
Hussain said that trouble was deliberately created by separatists at the start of Amarnath Yatra.
“Strong action should be taken against those who vitiate atmosphere before the yatra. These people do not like the Hindu-Muslim unity,” he said.
Hussain said that the government should provide full security to Amarnath pilgrims.
“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should take the initiative and give full guarantee of security,” he said.
He said the an orchestrated campaign had been launched in Kashmir to deliberately discredit the CRPF and other security agencies.
“In spite of the fact that CRPF has opened fire only once when a mob attempted to overrun their posts, the deliberate and ill-intentioned campaign to project the force as being ‘trigger-happy’ and ‘out of control’ has been launched,” he said.
