Patna, Nov 15 (IANS) Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Tuesday asked Bihar’s politicians to embrace “development politics” in a bid to restore public confidence in the political system.

“Fully involve yourself in development politics,” Kalam told legislators at a seminar in the premises of the state assembly.

This, he said, was necessary for the growth of healthy and democratic politics.

Kalam also interacted with legislators and responded to their queries on development politics.

He said the political system did not enjoy the full confidence of people despite the good work done over the years.

If legislators delivered the goods to voters in their constituencies, Bihar would develop into “an economically developed, happy, prosperous and peaceful state”.

Kalam said the focus should be on to increase farm productivity and marketing so as to attract small and medium-scale industries, promote tourism and implement sustainable rural development.

“The state government should set a target of attracting one million foreign and 10 million domestic tourists every year.”

He asked the government to adopt a 15-year programme to create waterways so that it not only becomes flood free, but also generates abundant power and provides irrigation in the districts.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said Bihar was already on a development path “and we will follow the good suggestions of Kalam to further develop” the state.
