Oct 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Elena Kagan was nominated to the Supreme Court a few months back. Then there was a speculation that she would rescue herself from a number of the pending Supreme Court cases, because she was earlier the Solicitor General for the US and hence in that capacity she had deliberated on many cases as an advocate too.

However Elena Kagan turned out to be much more savvy. She managed to get herself rescued from not only the cases she had deliberated in, but rather from almost 50% of the cases in the Supreme Court. According to National Law Journal reporter Tony Mauro, Elena Kagan has rescued herself from more than 10 cases, which are going to be addressed in the current term. Thus in all, she is not going to be a part of total 21 cases. And the total number of cases, that the Supreme Court is going to deliberate upon in this term is just 40.

In her defense, Elena Kagan said that she has decided to excuse herself from the extra 11 cases, because her former office had been a part of those cases in the earlier phases of the cases. Hence she thought that it wouldn’t be prudent to be a part of them in her current capacity.
