Hyderabad, March 9 (IANS) The Election Commission Monday sought an explanation from Andhra Pradesh police chief S.S.P. Yadav for allegedly praising Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
Yadav had reportedly praised the chief minister at a meeting in Mahbubnagar district two days ago. The opposition parties have already demanded his immediate sacking.
State’s Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao told a news conference here Monday that he had sought an explanation from the police chief and action would be taken after examining what exactly he had said.
Earlier, Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu sought action against the DGP for praising the chief minister. He said the grand alliance of the opposition parties would lodge a formal complaint against him with the Election Commission.
“The DGP is holding a responsible position but has acted as a party worker by praising the chief minister,” Naidu told reporters.
