Election Commission announces assembly bye-elections
December 22nd, 2009 - 9:16 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 22 (IANS) The Election Commission Tuesday announced bye-elections to fill the vacancies in the legislative assemblies of Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
According to the Election Commission, Gujarat’s Chotila assembly constituency, Haryana’s Ellenabad, Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi East and Tamil Nadu’s Pennagaram will go to the polls Jan 20.
“After taking into consideration various factors like requirement of police forces, festivities, position of electoral rolls, etc., the commission has decided to hold bye-elections to fill up the casual vacancies,” said an Election Commission release here.
Counting will be held on Jan 23.
