Egyptian prosecutors demand death for Mubarak
January 6th, 2012 - 4:08 am ICT by IANSCairo, Jan 6 (IANS/RIA Novosti) The Prosecutors General’s Office in Egypt has demanded a death sentence for former president Hosni Mubarak, the former interior minister and six other defendants.
The hearing against the ousted Egyptian leader resumed Jan 2.
Mustafa Khater, one of the prosecutors, told the court that “the prosecution demands the maximum penalty against Mubarak and the rest of the accused which is death by hanging”, state news agency MENA reported.
Mubarak and former interior minister Habib El-Adly and a group of other former authorities are charged with ordering to shoot at peaceful protesters during the public unrest in January 2011. Over 850 people were killed in the clashes.
The next hearing will be held Jan 9-10, the Al Ahram website reported.
