Edward KennedyEdward Kennedy, who has seen it all in his life that has been always under public glare, was a hero for the liberals, an eye sore for the conservatives and a legislator with few peers.

Edward, who was reported to have died late on Tuesday night, was the sole survivor among the “Kennedy brothers”, all of whom had reportedly died an untimely death. Kennedy’s life, which witnessed the both sides of the pole, a life that was seemingly gazing through triumph and distress, a life stranded on the thin line between ups and downs, had received public glare more than that of his brothers. He was the only Kennedy brother to have run for the White House and lose in distress.

His brother John F Kennedy, the then president of US, was assassinated in 1963 a few days before Thanksgiving, whereas Robert fell to a gun man in a mid-campaign five years later. An older brother Joseph Jr. was killed while piloting a plane during the tumultuous World War II.

Disappointment prevailed when he lost out in the two man race for the Democratic nomination in the year 1980. Kennedy closed out his failed candidacy with a speech that had brought tears into the eyes of the people who were present during the time of his speech at Madison Square Garden. “For me, a few hours ago, this campaign came to an end. For all those whose cares have been our concern, the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die,” he said.

Kennedy succumbed to a brain tumor on Tuesday. He was 77.
