Manmohan Singh New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) The Congress said Sunday that it does not see the matter of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran, who is facing an impeachment motion, in terms of caste, community or region.
Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said that political motives should not be injected in a constitutional process. He said his party does not see the issue in caste, community or regional terms.

The Congress had said Saturday that it had not taken a stand on the impeachment notice against the judge as the collegium that had recommended his elevation to Supreme Court had not given its final decision.

Some Congress MPs from the Dalit community have said that they will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to urge them to oppose impeachment of Justice Dinakaran.

Justice Dinakaran faces allegations of amassing disproportionate assets and grabbing land. MPs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Left, AIADMK, Samajwadi Party and Janata Dal-United had submitted a petition to Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari seeking impeachment proceedings against him.
