Priyanka Gandhi Amethi (Uttar Pradesh), April 11 (IANS) “Do I look old,” Priyanka Gandhi, campaigning for her brother, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, asked people, as she took on Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for terming the Congress party a “budhia” (old woman).
“Kya mein budhi dikhti hoon? (Do I look old),” she asked people of Khalispur village, raising a collective guffaw from the crowd milling around. “Does Sonia Gandhi (Congress president and her mother), Rahul Gandhi or I look old to you,” she continued.

Modi has repeatedly been likening the Congress to a “125-year-old budhia” during his election campaigns, as he did in Uttar Pradesh Friday. He has asked people to vote instead for the 30-year-”young” BJP.

Replying to a reporter’s query in Gauriganj block, Priyanka Gandhi said if BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani, 81, and Modi, 58, consider themselves young, it is good for them.

“Agar buzurg apne aapko javaan mehsoos karein to ye unki sehat ke liye achchha hai (If elderly people feel young it is good for their health),” she said, tongue firmly in cheek.

Priyanka Gandhi also spoke at length about the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government’s development works and asked people to vote for the Congress.

Asked who among Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will win with a bigger margin, Priyanka Gandhi said: “I am here to campaign for both of them and the development work carried out in the region by the UPA government speaks for itself.”

Queried about her own politicial debut, she replied: “You have been asking me the same question for the past 20 years and my reply remains the same. No.”
