DMK mulls fighting Tiruchirapalli by-poll
September 18th, 2011 - 8:34 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Sep 18 (IANS) DMK president and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi Sunday said that the party would soon take a decision whether to contest the Oct 13 by-poll to the state assembly from the Tiruchirapalli West constituency.
The DMK would release its candidates’ list for the local body elections, due in October, once the dates are announced, he said.
Speaking to reporters here, Karunanidhi said the by-poll has been necessitated following the death of a friend from minority community when he was about to take oath as a minister.
As the by-poll is held after a tragic event, the DMK would study the matter and take a decision, he said.
The seat was held by AIADMK’s Mariam Pitchai, who died in May when the car he was travelling in, collided with a lorry going ahead.
