Chennai, May 24 (IANS) Claiming the Tamil Nadu government was blind to their issues, DMK president and former chief minister M.Karunanidhi Thursday appealed to the contract workers of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC) to end their strike and resume duties.

He also urged the central government to call the NLC management and hold talks with the workers so as to arrive at an amicable solution for the labour issue.

In a letter to the party cadres to be published in the DMK mouthpiece “Murasoli”, Karunanidhi charged the ruling AIADMK in the state of not showing interest in resolving the month-long strike by NLC’s contract labour.

Detailing the steps taking by the DMK government when the workers went on strike earlier, Karunanidhi wondered why the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa did not involve herself in sorting out the labour problem.

“Should not the chief minister or the state labour minister call the union leaders for talks? Why they didn’t do that?” he asked.
