Dikshit stresses moral education in city schools
November 19th, 2010 - 9:23 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Friday stressed the role of moral education in schools, and noted that society needs “honest and upright” citizens to take the country to greater heights.
Speaking after presenting the Indira Awards 2010 on the birth anniversary of late prime minister Indira Gandhi to best schools, teachers and students, including special children, Dikshit lauded the role of the teachers in making the government-run schools in the city better than the private ones through their “hard work and commitment”.
“Moral education is extremely important and I want the teachers to focus more on this aspect of education. We need honest and upright people to take the country forward,” she said.
With focus on achieving the goal of universalisation of education in Delhi, Dikshit said the government schools are being spruced up under “Roopantar” scheme and also efforts are on to provide infrastructure to these schools.
Noting that the government has been putting “sincere” efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the last 10 years, she said aspects like moral education and personality development should be given top priority by the teachers.
“From pass percentage of 36 in board exams a few years back, we have been able to achieve success rate of 87 percent. I am confident that soon it will go up to 100 percent,” Dikshit said.
The chief minister also presented the ‘Best School Chief Minister’s Trophy’ to SCSDG Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Rohini.
