Digvijay snubs Mulayam on higher Muslim quota
January 20th, 2012 - 9:37 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Jan 20 (IANS) Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh Friday dismissed Mulayam Singh Yadav’s pledge to reseve more jobs for Muslims by claiming the Samajwadi Party leader was not serious.
He also sought to make it clear at a press conference that controversial writer Salman Rushdie could not be prevented from coming to India. Rushdie has since said he would not attend the Jaipur Literary Festival.
“Being a person of Indian origin, he does not require a visa to come to India. So how under what law can we stop him from coming?”
Digivjay Singh said the Samajwadi Party would need 300 MPs to fulfil its promise of providing higher job quota for Muslims.
“I wonder how SP, a regional party with 21 members in the Lok Sabha, can think of amending the constitution?”
