Digvijay Singh using language of divide: BJP
December 28th, 2010 - 10:18 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Dec 28 (IANS) Accusing Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh of using the “language of divide”, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday sought a clarification from Congress over his remarks about slain Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare being a form of God for Muslims. “It is a curious statement. Does he (Digvijay) wants to say he (Karkare) was nothing to the Hindus of this country. Does he want to identify a martyr to a religion… What prompts him to use this language of divide,” BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said in a sharp attack on the Congress and Singh.
Rudy said that Singh had the “blessings of (Congress chief) Sonia Gandhi and (general secretary) Rahul Gandhi”.
“We are amused by his statements which can be called outlandish,” he said.
Rudy said that Singh had earlier alluded to Karkare being a victim of right wing terror, contending the Congress leader’s statements had sought to absolve Pakistan of its role in the 26/11 Mumbai attack.
The BJP spokesperson said that Singh had earlier raised questions over Batla House gunfight and had visited Azamgarh which had emerged as “a den of terrorism”.
“It is a strange situation. It seems that the responsibility of dirty tricks department of Congress has been given to Digvijay,” Rudy said.
He said that Karkare’s widow Kavita had rejected Singh’s remarks and urged him to keep her husband out of politics.
“It is limit of insensitivity. Somewhere he is getting protection of Sonia Gandhi. People are seeing how a martyr is being shown disrespect,” Rudy said.
Singh, who released a book “26/11 RSS ki Saazish” in Mumbai Monday, said: “Hemant Karkare had come forth as a form of Ishwar (God) for Muslims in this country” and “saved a community from being defamed”.
