Digvijay attacks Ramdev’s ‘drama’
June 12th, 2011 - 9:40 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, June 12 (IANS) Unleashing a fresh attack on yoga guru Baba Ramdev, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh Sunday described his nine-day fast as “a drama and not a satyagraha”.
He also dismissed suggestions of further talks with Ramdev, saying there was no need for one, as most of his demands were already met.
“I am very happy that this nautanki (drama) has ended. The government has accepted most of his demands, so there is no need for talks,” Digvijay Singh told reporters here.
Holding that there was no need for the yoga guru to go on a hunger strike, he said: “Now, we should move on and have faith in the government, which is sincere about unearthing illegal money.”
Accusing Ramdev of “turning secret donations into white money”, Digvijay Singh had Saturday told reporters at his home town Raghogarh in Madhya Pradesh’s Guna that the yoga guru should reveal the name of the person who “secretly donated” a helicopter to him.
“He is bringing secret donations under the tax-free category, making them white, and accumulating huge capital,” Singh had said.
Holding that this suppression of names by Ramdev went against the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, the Congress leader demanded an inquiry into it.
Ramdev’s protest at Delhi’s Ramlila Ground was forcibly broken up post-midnight June 4 and the yoga guru returned to his ashram to continue his fast. He was admitted to a Dehradun hospital Friday after his health deteriorated. On Sunday, he bowed to the requests of religious and spiritual leaders and ended the fast.
