Dick Cheney Washington Feb 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In what can only be called a miracle, former Vice President Dick Cheney has survived his fifth heart attack. Cheney, who is 69 years old,had his first heart attack at 37 years old. He has had quadruple bypass surgery, and two angioplasties. He now wears a pacemaker. As he was reportedly “resting comfortably ” it was revealed that he showed evidence of having a mild heart attack. It is the fifth heart attack for a man who has served under four presidents, and in Congress in Wyoming. He also served as an advisor in the administrations of three Republican presidents, and was former President George W. Bush’s vice president.

Although five heart attacks may seem impossible to live through, with the abilities that doctors now have to detect smaller heart damages, and the therapy that is available today, heart attacks are usually smaller than in the past, and fatal heart attacks are much less common. Cheney’s longtime heart problems actually may be operating in his favor, said Dr. Robert Kloner of USC’s Keck School of Medicine. “It is likely that he has developed collateral blood vessels that grow into the areas not getting enough oxygen. That might be something that is helping him.”

Cheney is resting at George Washington University Hospital after undergoing a stress test as well as an undisclosed heart procedure, and is expected to be released by week’s end.
