Deputy collector’s job for son of cop killed by Maoists
July 12th, 2010 - 9:53 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, July 12 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh Monday appointed the son of an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer killed in a Maoist attack last year as a deputy collector in the state after relaxing the rules.
V.K. Choubey was among 29 policemen killed June 12, 2009 in a deadly ambush by Maoists in the state’s Rajnandgaon district. He is the lone IPS officer killed by the rebels in Chhattisgarh, which has been rocked by a spate of deadly attacks in 2010, including the massacre of 76 securitymen April 6 in Dantewada district.
On Choubey’s first death anniversary, the chief minister and state police chief Vishwa Ranjan visited his house here at E.A.C Colony and met the family members, including Choubey’s widow Ranjana Choubey.
He personally handed over appointment letter to a deputy collector’s post to Choubey’s son, S.R. Choubey, 24. The youth later joined duty at the Raipur collectorate.
