Aug 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a state like Michigan that has seen an increase in the number of unemployed population in the recent year, the Democrats on Tuesday chose Lancing Mayor Virg Bernero as its nominee to succeed the limited-period Democrat Governor Jennifer Granholm after the November gubernatorial election. The Mayor who wears the batch of being the “angriest mayor” quite proudly, left behind House Speaker Andy Dillon with a margin of around 18% votes. While Andy Dillon managed 41% votes, Virg Bernero got the support of the organized labor unions and the pro-abortion-rights groups to gather 59% votes in his favor.
There is no doubt about the fact that the win of the primary on Tuesday by Virg Bernero points to the power of union groups. Reports claim that the organized labor group paid an estimated $2 million for a television campaign of the Mayor of Lancing. However, some analysts have mentioned that tough time lies ahead of Virg Bernero who might find it difficult to gain the votes of Independents and the Republican supporters in the general election for his support of abortion right. Even on Tuesday reports claim that some of the Democrats voted for Rick Snyder. He also lost many Republican votes as many disliked his support for embryonic stem cell research.
However, on the part of the Virg Bernero, the Lancing mayor is confident about his support base and said to media sources on Tuesday that the turning point of the November general election lies in the way he and Rick Snyder manager to get their idea to the Independents and the opposition party supporters.
