jerry_brownNov 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Considering that California is one of the biggest and most diverse states in the country, winning the governorship gives the Democrats a big boost. With the Republicans sweeping seats in the senate along with the governorship of many states, it looks like Jerry Brown is one of the biggest trump cards for the Democrats this year. Jerry Brown who is presently the state’s attorney general claimed victory in a large rally at the Fox Theater in Oakland on Tuesday.

Jerry Brown told the thousands gathered at the rally that it looked like he was going back to the senate again. He also said that he had the know-how and the experience and also added that this time there is a first lady that they did not have the last time. He also said that he chose the Fox Theater because it too had undergone changes after 30 years. Jerry Brown was the governor of California between 1975-1983. Being the youngest to become the governor in the 19th century, Jerry Brown is one of the oldest to be elected on Tuesday in this year’s election.

Jerry Brown takes over the position of governor from Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger who became highly unpopular after the budget deficits started to plague the state. Experts said that Jerry Brown will have a tough job taking over the governorship at this point with the fractious economy. Meg Whitman, the former eBay CEO, who was defeated by the Democratic veteran received loud boos from the crowds during her speech where she said that she was proud of the (mostly self-funded) campaign that she had run.
